Ideas for Shirley’s Day Sequel

I’ve been doing some job training for the past few months and it eats up my time, in my breaks though, I’m thinking of ideas about what I could do for a sequel to Shirley’s Day.

Ideas that I want to explore are: the consequences of Shirley stoning an entire school, if Shirley’s parents knew about her powers manifesting. How Shirley’s monster family lives in a normal society and anything else I can think of or what people suggest.

A while ago I made a rough concept idea of Shirley’s Father for a potential sequel for Shirley’s Day. I wanted to continue the snake theming and wacky “Pokemon logic” of that family, so I based Shirley’s father off of the Greek King Cecrops.

This is some old art of Shirley’s Mom that I don’t think made it into the print comic. I based her of my original sketchbook drawing of my Hipster Medusa art I draw a long while ago.

I’m still brainstorming some stuff, so nothings set in stone, but I do like the older look for Shirley. I’ll let you know when I have a rough story together.

CODCon XXV

I’m still writing Blackmask slowly and steadily when I have time, but I’ve been tackling some new freelance artwork and commission stuff. I’m still trying to fund printing for Incident at The Game Store in color but some car problems have come up, so money’s lacking.

Making art is easy to me, I just draw the thing and get done with it. Being an artist is hard. I draw the thing, show the thing, tell people that the thing exists. I convince people with money to pay me to live and draw more things.

It takes self-discipline, self-awareness, and self-esteem to be an artist. Some days, you feel like a fountain of ingenious creations! But other days, you feel like a worthless loser who can’t to do anything and regrets having interests. This is the life of most artists, musicians, actors, and other “creative” professionals.

This is a list of tips that I try to follow for myself for the past few years as I try to become a more professional artist.

Pardon the Mess

It’s been a while since I’ve updated anything online. Over the past few months, I’ve made an extremely sloppy transfer to Bluehost in a rough effort to improve my website. My big goal is to set up my website as my core hub for all of my web presence including where I’ll post and sell my comics and post my news. I’ll still have my typical social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram but I want to one day sunset them as I think they don’t do much to help me out in my art journey.

Adam Mortell, Ryan Cambruzzi, Vincent Rusca and I worked on a game for Global Game Jam this year. I’m bummed that I didn’t do more for the game but, I learned how to make pixel art for the first time.
