What I’ve Been Up To: Busy, Busy!

I’ve been drawing small stuff to pay my bills, fill my portfolio, and staying busy. Despite, constantly feeling like I’m behind on everything I’m getting the things expected of me done.

Progress is being made working on the Illustrations on Flawless Extra-Ordinary Superheroes, knocking out a larger illustration and pushing forward to the next few ones.

Chuggin Along

Pardon all of the sudden changes to my website if you’ve been following me on here. I’m never satisfied with a theme because many of them have little quirks and oversights that I never account for like being incompatible for mobile, or not displaying my comics correctly.

In general things aren’t as eventful due to the virus situation, but I’m doing my best to stay busy and to be positive. Right now, I’m working on a set of stickers inspired by this bread cat art I made a long while ago. A few more cats and I’ll have a worthwhile sticker pack.

My Comics on Etsy

Today would’ve been the weekend that I would be tabling at Anime Central but due to all conventions being cancelled for the year, I’ve decided to run my convention exclusive deals on my Etsy store!

I now have a current ongoing deal where you purchase both the print copies of Shirley’s Day and Incident at the Game Store, and you get an art print of your choosing absolutely free!

Ideas for Shirley’s Day Sequel

I’ve been doing some job training for the past few months and it eats up my time, in my breaks though, I’m thinking of ideas about what I could do for a sequel to Shirley’s Day.

Ideas that I want to explore are: the consequences of Shirley stoning an entire school, if Shirley’s parents knew about her powers manifesting. How Shirley’s monster family lives in a normal society and anything else I can think of or what people suggest.

A while ago I made a rough concept idea of Shirley’s Father for a potential sequel for Shirley’s Day. I wanted to continue the snake theming and wacky “Pokemon logic” of that family, so I based Shirley’s father off of the Greek King Cecrops.

This is some old art of Shirley’s Mom that I don’t think made it into the print comic. I based her of my original sketchbook drawing of my Hipster Medusa art I draw a long while ago.

I’m still brainstorming some stuff, so nothings set in stone, but I do like the older look for Shirley. I’ll let you know when I have a rough story together.

CODCon XXV

Edit 3/15/2020: CODCon is cancelled due to the COVID-19 stuff. Hopefully CODCon will resume next year. Stay safe folks!

My first convention of the year will be at CODCon on April 3rd through 5th at the College of DuPage.

College of Dupage Convention 25 Promotion

I’ll be experimenting with new prints and the debut of the colored version of Incident at the Game Store! I have no clue if I’ll even be prepared enough!

If you want to know about my future con appearances and events, check out my Convention Schedule for all the details!

Project Blackmask Update 2/24/2019

I’m still writing Blackmask slowly and steadily when I have time, but I’ve been tackling some new freelance artwork and commission stuff. I’m still trying to fund printing for Incident at The Game Store in color but some car problems have come up, so money’s lacking.

Tiny Tips to Help You Improve Your Life as an Artist

Making art is easy to me, I just draw the thing and get done with it. Being an artist is hard. I draw the thing, show the thing, tell people that the thing exists. I convince people with money to pay me to live and draw more things.

It takes self-discipline, self-awareness, and self-esteem to be an artist. Some days, you feel like a fountain of ingenious creations! But other days, you feel like a worthless loser who can’t to do anything and regrets having interests. This is the life of most artists, musicians, actors, and other “creative” professionals.

This is a list of tips that I try to follow for myself for the past few years as I try to become a more professional artist.

Pardon the Mess

It’s been a while since I’ve updated anything online. Over the past few months, I’ve made an extremely sloppy transfer to Bluehost in a rough effort to improve my website. My big goal is to set up my website as my core hub for all of my web presence including where I’ll post and sell my comics and post my news. I’ll still have my typical social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram but I want to one day sunset them as I think they don’t do much to help me out in my art journey.

Adam Mortell, Ryan Cambruzzi, Vincent Rusca and I worked on a game for Global Game Jam this year. I’m bummed that I didn’t do more for the game but, I learned how to make pixel art for the first time.

You can play our game here!

Besides that, I’ve been tackling some new freelance artwork and commission stuff including working on a new book in the Flawless Extra-Ordinary Superheroes Series. With this, I’m still trying to fund printing for Incident at The Game Store in color but some car problems have come up so money’s lacking.
