Comicopolis and Gallery Seven

Fast announcement that I will be tabling at Anime Magic on August 5th-7th!

July is a good month for me as Comicopolis was running during my art show at the Gallery Seven! I made myself busy hopping from the con to my artist reception.

Gallery Seven was a meager showing in comparison to Comicopolis. To levy criticism, the gallery show should’ve taken place at an earlier date, so the people’s time isn’t split. Comicopolis was well populated, and the attendees loved to talk to me about making comics!

Despite that, I got to take time to chat with the directors about my art life of freelancing.

A few family friends and relatives arrived to support me, and for that I’m grateful! Many I haven’t seen for years as we all have been dealing with our lives, especially with the heat waves and plague all over.

In the end, the weight is off my shoulder, as I’d been worrying about this show for the past year. I’m interested in doing more gallery shows in the future. Framing and showing the original pages of my indie comics was a treat! It’d be rad to make a show of my pixel art too!

I’m trying to make more environment art for Blackmask. Right now, I’m revisiting the Ancient Owlbear stuff concept art.

It was okay until I got stuck and fell into old habits and sketched living Owlbears. I supposed when there’s a character to work with, I can figure out their “history.”

When I get tired of that, I doodle character sprite ideas in Pixaki for enemies or NPCs. Nothing’s animated, but I have some character designs, and I’d love to see in action.

Blackmask is making more leeway as collision, enemy AI, and dialogue settings to a good state! All that’s left is to meet up with Adam and refine the skeleton of a demo level. After narrowing down the stuff to incorporate, the demo can be playable within this year!

Besides this, I’m trying something new where I have my raw sketchbook scans for sale. On my Ko-Fi page, you can get my direct, unedited, and high-resolution scans that I drew in the past month.

Some of it is art you have seen on here, some of it is the art I don’t remember posting, but it’s all from my sketchbook.

I should be able to have more focus for the next month. I feel scattered by all the stuff I need to get done and what I want to get done. I’ll be positive and say that I’m putting in the work, and I’m enjoying the fruits of my work, and I’m doing fine. My social presence has diminished on Twitter and Instagram, but it’s nice to do more interactions with my art in real life.
