Four New Social Media Accounts I post to as an Artist.

In wake of dumb bullshit happening on multiple social media sites, I again hear of newer ones that claim to be better and artist friendly. Promoting on social media doesn’t make a difference my sales online or offline at cons and art shows. Most of this hoop jumpin to social media accounts remind me that I’m being desperate. If I’m a nobody on my current pages, what makes me think I wouldn’t be a nobody on a new page?

Cara

Right now, I made a Cara page where I’ll camp my username, but I probably won’t use it much. The most I’ve done on Cara is plant my flag on my username. I’m not in a rush to update it because I neglect my website enough.

Cara is in the model of pro sites like Artstation but many forget that fans and buyers of art also need to be on there and if there’s no one to buy, it’s kinda useless. The site is slow and buckling under the load of new artists posting. It’s already a pain in the butt to have another fucking website to post art in.

Bluesky

Bluesky is the other social site I post at. It’s Twitter-like but there’s times I feel like it’s the rip-off version of it due to the lack of features I find important to me like uploading gifs.

I also still don’t feel as into talking to my mutual like any other social site so it’s not like my presence is making things interesting. The restricted image per post limit still feels like I’m handcuffed by social media’s stupid anti-artist issues, but I’m taking that for it’s Twitter-like features.

Newgrounds

From the beginning, Newgrounds has always been an artist and expression friendly site. Newgrounds is a powerhouse community, supporting Art, Video, Music, Games, and more! From being the tent poles of Flash animation publishing, to the fertile soil that grew the first seeds of independent video game development, Newgrounds still hangs on!

FurAffinity

FurAffinity is an appropriate site for my work as a person who likes of draw animal characters. The gallery and uploading system might be archaic for the youth.

It still does what it does best and that’s posting art, having a gallery of clear thumbnails, and having a spot for artists or fans to talk about the art. The NSFW on the front page and the lack of personal curation features might be a turnoff for anyone who isn’t interested in that hassle, but that’s the nature of FA.

Wrap-Up

These website are alright for archiving my art, but I haven’t deleted my regular accounts. As I write this, I’m trying to distance myself away from the internet validation. Now, I’m focusing on real life interactions and less about online brownie points validate my rock-bottom self esteem. I will fulfill my goal to cultivate my home website to not only be a great portfolio site but also my central spot for my life, inspirations and philosophy.
