Sir Peer Keely is a royal knight of the Kingdom of Seraplume. Together with the mighty Blade Wing Knights, the plucky bungling budgie hero dedicates his life to protecting the Kingdoms of Sopranado from the rising menace of Sky Piracy!
This is a blog post about my process of drawing my bird knight illustration. It was a struggle, but I pushed myself to complete my art piece. After several months of self-doubt, I finished this Bird Knight Illustration. I juggled this drawing between the Procreate App and Clip Studio Paint to complete this artwork.
This character is from an old drawing I made in my sketchbook years ago. There are never big story ideas for my daily sketches, as I draw characters to keep up my skills and stay creative.
I wanted a new pose of this winged character in flight to push myself with dynamic poses. There was this silly pride thing where I felt obligated to have my winged characters flying.
Due to all my software jumping, I don’t have a time-lapse for creating the big illustration. I used Procreate’s ability to export files as Photoshop files to import to the Clip Studio Paint to color.
I experimented with File Objects for the first time. You can import a separate Clip Studio File as an image in another file. After that, you can use then Operation Tool to Scale and Skew the image wherever you need it. Anything you edit and save in that file will show in your Illustration file!
Making the emblem was a simple task for me. Using Clip Studio’s Symmetry Ruler, I drew the emblem based on the original drawing of the bird knight. Now, it looks cleaner, and I can reuse this emblem for other drawings if I’m interested.
I couldn’t decide to work on this in Procreate or Clip Studio Paint, and the piece suffered for it. Despite that, I had to let this go, get it out of my consciousness, and move on to new drawings.
